The Paradigm Change of a Teacher
After previously presenting school principals from Berau Regency, on this occasion, a teacher from Jayapura City, Papua Province, was present to fill in the guest lecture Best Practices Leadership for Masters in Education Management (S2 MP UAD) (23/12/2021). This activity is still carried out online via Zoom. As a guest lecture this time, Mr. Mardi is a teacher at the Waena Inpres Elementary School, Jayapura City. He is also one of the first teacher movers from Jayapura City and the candidate for the most significant change from the Program Guru Pengerak(PGP).
“Incidentally, at the end of November to early December, I had the opportunity to come to Pak Mardi’s school and see what changes had occurred in Pak Mardi’s school as a result of Pak Mardi’s involvement as a driving teacher and what should be noted here is the location of Pak Mardi’s school in Papua area, so there are unique things maybe that we don’t find in the area here in Yogyakarta, but are in Papua. So I invite Mr. Mardi to share experiences about Mr. Mardi’s involvement in this teacher mover from beginning to end. Maybe there are things- what are the real challenges, what are the solutions so that friends can learn from the experience that Mr. Mardi has experienced,” said Dr. Enung Hasanah introducing the presenters.
Mr. Mardi conveyed his experience while participating in the PGP, from registration and testing to being accepted and declared to have graduated from this program(PGP). The motivation to follow this PGP comes from internally. Teachers must be dynamic, not static. Many teachers are in their comfort zone. Something has to change in us. If the teacher does not follow the existing changes will be left behind. With the existence of this PGP, curiosity arises in harmony with wanting a change from oneself.
“This program is carried out online. So we continue to carry out our duties as teachers in schools while attending this PGP debriefing. So for the activities, 70% of us are at school in on-the-job learning. My colleagues who passed the PGP through LMS than the other 10% studied together with resource persons and instructors,” explained Mr. Mardi explaining the PGP activities.
He explained that in this online training (PGP), there is a mix of synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous with meetings virtually while asynchronously accessing materials, do independent tasks via LMS. Within nine months, PGP must complete three modules; the first is related to the vision and mission of the PGP, the second is learning practices that favor students, and the third is related to learning leaders and school developers.
The activities of this program are different from other training, which usually emphasize the theoretical aspect, while in this PGP, more practical actions are carried out in their respective schools.
Mr. Mardi also conveyed the impact obtained from this PGP, namely collaborating with other PGP partners. Inspire each other in terms of school conditions and various practices carried out by each school. Another impact that can be felt is a change in the mindset of being a teacher. A teacher only taught and transferred knowledge in the past, but the teacher had to guide children according to their potential because all children are not the same. They are unique with their respective personalities. Another impact of PGP is that IT capabilities are added because it is carried out online.
With guest lectures from educational practitioners, students can absorb knowledge directly, not just educational theory.
